Private Tour of John Ellis Roosevelt's Home

Sunday October 1, 2023, at Meadow Croft 10:30 am - 12:00 pm EST

Enjoy a private tour of Meadow Croft, the former summer estate of John Ellis Roosevelt (cousin of Theodore Roosevelt) and his family. Meadow Croft comprises a 19th-century farmhouse, a Colonial Revival addition designed by Sayville architect Isaac H. Green, Jr., and several additional structures, including a carriage house, an auto house, a caretaker’s cottage, and a swimming pool.

Meadow Croft is now owned by Suffolk County and is part of the Suffolk County Parks Department. The care and restoration is shared by the Bayport-Blue Point Heritage Association, which used John E. Roosevelt's ledgers, family photos, and evidence left in the house to develop a furnishing report that became a guide to restoring the house. Reproduction wallpaper and carpets were purchased, as well as period antiques. The Roosevelt family donated original pieces, most notably a beautiful grand piano. The Loughlin family returned the original dining room table and chairs, at which President Roosevelt had lunch with the family in 1903.
