University Relations Event, featuring Harvard Professor Martin Puchner and 2024 Distinguished Teachers of Long Island

Saturday, March 9th, 2024, at Heritage Club of Bethpage, 11:00 am - 2:15 pm EST

Please join us to honor this year’s 2024 Distinguished Teachers! All honorees were nominated by current Harvard undergraduates and selected by the Harvard Club of Long Island’s Distinguished Teacher Awards Committee.

The honorees have riveted students in the classroom and encouraged critical thinking, offered research and extra-curricular opportunities to help students find their passions, and inspired students to learn the joy of serving others. In addition to being phenomenal educators, these teachers have devoted countless hours attending to the emotional well-being of their students.

Martin Puchner, the Byron and Anita Wien Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Harvard and a global fellow at Queen Mary University of London, will deliver the keynote address. His prize-winning books include The Written World: The Power of Stories to Shape People, History, and Civilization, a Wall Street Journal bestseller that has been translated into twenty languages; the Norton Anthology of World Literature; and Literature for a Changing Planet, which draws lessons from world literature for addressing climate change. His most recent book, Culture: The Story of Us, from Cave Art to K-Pop is a global history of the arts and humanities.
