Private Tour of “WWI: The Homefront” Exhibit

Discover how Long Island society adapted in response to war.

Sunday September 10, 2023, at the Sands-Willets House 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST

Please join us for a private, docent-led tour of a special exhibit showcasing what was happening on Long Island during World War I. The exhibit, presented by the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society, features photographs, uniforms, newspapers, personal letters, and other artifacts documenting military, suffragist, cultural and agricultural developments from the era.

  • Please arrive at 1:20pm so we can start promptly!

  • Recommended age: 12+

  • There is a 12-person maximum, so RSVP early to avoid disappointment

Some of the questions the tour will address include: How did our Long Island communities pull together when local men were drafted and shipped abroad? When the farmers left, who grew all the food, both for us and for the soldiers? What did the suffragists do during the war? And who were the farmerettes?
