Long Island Maritime Museum: Tour and Picnic Lunch

Monday, August 19th, 2024, at Long Island Maritime Museum, West Sayville, 10:00 am EST

Come learn about Long Island’s rich maritime history at this family-friendly event. Founded in 1966 on the waterfront grounds of the former estate of Mrs. Florence Bourne Hard, daughter of the Gilded Age president of Singer Sewing Machine, the Long Island Maritime Museum has been welcoming visitors from all over the world for over 50 years.

The museum's Main Exhibit and Administrative Building houses a collection of local half models, a permanent exhibit on Long Island shipwrecks and the United States Lifesaving Service, and a gallery for annual exhibits.  Our tour also includes a visit to the Small Craft Building, The William Rudolph Oyster House – on the National Register of Historic Places; The Beebe Cottage – where we’ll see how a 19th-century bayman lived; and The Penney Boat Shop, where we’ll observe antique vessels being restored!

The tour of all the buildings will last approximately 1.5 hours, after which we will picnic as a group on the lovely grounds of the Museum under a gazebo.

Please bring your own bagged lunch and comfortable walking shoes.
